About Us

Erik Fantasia

I’ve been dreaming of taking a round-the-world trip for nearly 10 years, after first getting bitten by the travel bug while spending a semester abroad in London.  This was followed shortly after by a 2-week trip on the Trans-Siberian railroad across Russia, another semester abroad (this time in Denmark), and, finally, taking a job back in London after graduating college. When not out and about exploring the world, I’m based out of foggy San Francisco, CA, connecting families with caregivers for their elderly loved ones on Kindly Care.

Heather Curtis

I’m a 30’s gal who was raised in upstate New York, went to college for music in NY & Boston, and moved to New York City in 2003. After getting a bit hardened by city-life through working and living in The Big Apple for 7 years, I was ready to see the world! I put my fear of flying (& of bugs, scorpions, snakes, etc.) aside and took a leap and traveled the globe! After two incredible years of exploring all far reaches of the world and gaining a very different perspective on life, I threw myself into disaster relief work for three years. Traveling changed me, in so many ways.

    Dear Erik and Heather,
I have been enjoying going through your blog. You have wonderful article and pictures. I have just started my site, The Runaway Guide. I was wondering if you would like to exchange links with me. Have a look here, http://www.runawayguide.com
Also, if you have any advice for me or can think of any further opportunities we can cross promote each other, I would greatly appreciate it. I have always had a passion for travel and I recently realized my passion for writing. Travel bloging merges these two beautifully and I hope to make this my profession.
    Thank you in advance,
    Safe travels,

Hi Erik and Heather- I am in the process of putting together a trip log with my pictures from our Plancius cruise Dec 10-20, 2010, and came across your proposal pictures. Awesome! Cuverville island must have some romantic thing going on, because we got MARRIED there on our cruise Dec. 14. Troels Jacobsen married us, with Captain Pruss attending, plus the entire contingent of passengers, many of the crew and (as you can imagine) a lot of penguins. If you’d like to see the amazing photos of our marriage, there are albums in my photos on Facebook. You will laugh- I think we got married practically on the same spot you got engaged, only there was a lot more snow still on the ground in December. Hope to hear from you, Andy and Tara

I am wondering if you can tell me if it is the governement or a foreign corporation that runs the mining at Ijen in Java? I want to work to get these men gas masks, some more protection from these fumes. That they give their lives to support their families, and someone is getting rich on the 30 years taken from their lives is so upsetting to me. With all of the profits from sulfur, they should be GIVEN gas masks. Is there any way at all you might be able to help me with this or get me in contact with someone who could?

Thank you so much for your time.

    Hi Erik and Heather!

I have been reading your blog and I enjoy it very much! I am new to travel blogging but have been traveling for a while now. I recently backpacked the Caribbean for 3 1/2 months this past summer and decided to create ‘Backpacking the Caribbean,’ since there aren’t many people who don’t really do this. I was wondering if you were interested in trading links. If there are any other ways we can cross promote, that would be awesome as well! Please let me know. Thank you!

    Hi Erik and Heather,

I really enjoyed Cirque’s O and I really hope I can also see the House of Dancing Water. I am working on a project right now that aims to work with sites like yours. Would you be open to this? I hope to know your thoughts about this so we can discuss. Thanks!

  14. Cathy Horyn

    Hope you are doing great!

My name is Cathy Horyn and I am the editor of http://www.thetravelersblog.com.
I have enjoyed reading your blog http://www.aroundthisworld.com and thought of dropping in a word.

As both the blogs deal with similar topics, I would like to recommend that we create a blog roll in our blogs so as to benefit the readers. It would greatly benefit the visitors if we could link to each other.

All you need to do is, add our blog to your blog roll and we will do the same.
If at all by any means you feel that this partnership level does not fit your needs, please do let me know what you consider for a mutual benefit.

Do let me know if you have any other ideas to cross-promote our blog’s content; like guest posting, feature promotions etc.
I look forward to working with you for a mutual partnership.

    Hi Erick and Heather,

    Phenomenal blog!

Gotta toss you a hat tip for the quality; it’s nice to see quality rich on the conveyance of one’s experience.

I was lucky to have spent my whole young adult life on the island of Bali, reading your blog brought back a lot of memories. I especially remember the holy day of Nyepi – The Day of Silence, when the island is cleaned of evil and all things bad.

Numerous ceremonies are held in the evening before and effigies of demons are paraded around. Then the next day, all of us – Balinese, tourists and expatriates – have to stay indoors for 24 hours, from sunrise to sunrise. We light no fires and keep off all lights. The airport is shut down – no tourists allowed for 24 hours on this tourist island! Radio stations go silent and satellite TV providers pull the plug. I’m a surfer who lives by the beach and it can be hard to watch perfect waves that I am not allowed to go out and ride, but it’s nice to think that for one day this year, the ocean and island gets herself back. Just the birds out there singing without any darn traffic horns or diesel engines.

I’ve traveled a bit and each culture has its own special holidays, but this one really is special. The whole hurtling juggernaut of commerce and of more, more, more and faster, faster, faster comes to a dead halt. Wouldn’t it be a damn fine idea if the world had a Day of Silence?
I’ve recently been working on my writing to develop a voice and always mean to build out my own blog but get frustrated with hosting and all the stuff that goes along with maintaining a website. Despite the fact that the internet allows me to read about people’s experiences half a world away, honestly, I would just love to write and not have to deal with the tech side.

I’ve had a ton of cool experiences over the years which I’ve been meaning to write up, and it would be great if I could push it out to the universe. If I swing a piece out to you would you ever consider it hosting it if you feel a resonance with your readers? I am always interested in feedback from different audiences as I develop my style.

    Hi, there!

I’m Jane and am an avid reader and blogger, a passion which I think we share. I’ve been writing contents on the web professionally since 2010. I share my experience through articles on Travel, Culture, History, Lifestyle and many more.

Your blog “aroundthisworld.com” is probably one of the most interesting ones I’ve seen recently and with due reason. I was wondering if I could do a guest post for your blog.

I would like to write on “7 Incredible Travel Destinations in Australia” or any other suggested topic for your blog.

It would be an honor to see my article published on your site.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Jane Roberts.

  18. Jordan Rousell

    Hi there,

I hope you don’t mind but we are looking for opportunities on sites such as yours to create a piece of unique content and bring to people’s attention, what we believe, is a genuinely forward thinking luxury car service tailored to the travel and tourism industry. We offer complementary Wi-Fi, water and newspapers! How many other private car companies can boast that?

Would you be interested in posting a unique piece of content from us on your site? We can discuss the angle or topic if you would prefer to give me guidance? If not I will come back to you with a suggestion.

Many thanks for reading all of this and hope we can speak soon!
